Nuturing Self-Reliance

A healthy family begins with healthy individuals. An integral portion of the DRUM Healthy Families’ philosophy is the importance of individuals and families being given the opportunity, resources and support to achieve their self-identified goals. Self-reliance promotes independence and it allows individuals to make healthy proactive choices and decisions. To that end, families that participate in DRUM Healthy Families’ program are given access to interactive educational training, supportive services, and referrals that strengthen the family’s foundation and promote self-reliance. Among the support provided that promote self-reliance are job skills training, economic empowerment training, and educational referrals and self-improvement workshops.

Our services are designed to holistically address the needs of parents in order to support their transition from pregnancy to parenting, as well as improve the likelihood of a healthy pregnancy, birth, and overall child safety and development

Daryl Stokes, a DRUM Family Support Worker for eight years until his passing in 2015

Daryl’s Dowry

DARYL'S DOWRY is a community resource inside the DRUM Healthy Families headquarters that provides free children's clothing and infant necessities, including strollers, car seats, formula, diapers, and toys. We created this resource in honor of Daryl Stokes, a DRUM family support worker who touched many lives before passing away in 2015. Since opening in 2017, Daryl's Dowry has provided resources to more than 100 families in Baltimore City.

The Dowry is made possible through donations from individuals and organizations that include the children of Carrie Mae Jones, the Jewish Volunteer Connection, Christ Child Society, and Linda's Legacy.
